Major Milestone for CCS in Ohio: HB 170 Signed into Law

This week, Governor Mike DeWine signed HB 170 into law, establishing a comprehensive statewide framework for the regulation of carbon sequestration activities. This legislation marks a major step forward in supporting the safe, responsible deployment of CCS technology across the state.

HB 170 provides the regulatory certainty needed to advance carbon sequestration projects in Ohio while fostering innovation and collaboration across the carbon management sector. By establishing a comprehensive statewide framework and clear oversight authority, the legislation creates a strong foundation for the responsible deployment of CCS technologies and future investment in Ohio’s energy and industrial economy.
